Northwest Elementary School in Amityville held several activities to celebrate Thanksgiving during the week leading up to the holiday.
First graders in Ms. Carey’s class held a Thanksgiving pie party, which featured three different types of pies: apple, chocolate and pumpkin. While making the pies, students developed numerous skills such as math, ELA, expressive and receptive language, problem solving, and cooperation. After the party, students expressed their opinion of their favorite pie and responses were tallied. Of course, the chocolate pudding pie won.
Students in Ms. Carrero and Ms. Haber's second grade class learned about the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City and created their own parade. Students throughout Northwest were very thankful for a fun learning experience.
