On March 3, students and teachers at Northeast Elementary School in Amityville kicked off their weeklong celebration of literature during National Read Across America Week.
The celebration was held in conjunction with Dr. Seuss’ birthday on March 2. The annual event is an initiative on reading created by the National Education Association, which encourages students to foster a love for literature.
Students and teachers at Northeast wore decorative hats to celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday. Additionally, teachers spent the day reading several stories to students, and they learned about the importance of finding time to read wherever they are.
